November 11th-15. This is a crazy week in the library. All the staff is attending library conferences or workshops during parts of the week. On Friday, the Library becomes MUN Central as SHASMUN takes over. SHASMUN is our school’s MUN Middle School Model UN Conference. The library is working to support the conference. Country Flags have been placed on all the ceiling lights and by Friday the library will feel like the United Nations. Pictures will follow
Mrs. Boyer, Mrs Tsou, and Ms Garcia will be attending the Follett Destiny Workshop at CISS on Monday and Tuesday. Mr. Boyer will be attending the annual AASL Library conference in Hartford, CT beginning Wednesday – Sunday.
Make sure to remember that November the 11th is Remembrance Day. The Library Destiny Home Page has a copy of John McCrae’s battle field poem, ”In Flanders Field”. The library has pulled many of its books on and about war as part of this Remembrance, lest we forget.

Aug 22- All our patron data has now been updated for the new school year. We have had many books going out and in. Some of the books, however, are staying out a bit longer hand the checkout period. We will begin the automated overdue notices next week. Please work to return your books on time. Remember you have the ability to renew a book 1 time if you log into your “Destiny” using your id number as you login name and login password. If you really need a resource longer than this, come in to discuss the situation with one of the librarians.
Coming Soon – Legos has returned to the Library. First Lego League’s 2013 Challenge will be released on Aug 27. Mr. Boyer, Mrs. Boyer, and Mr. David will be coaching. Team development packets were passed out this week. For more information about First Lego League and SAS please see Mrs. Boyer in the Library
Parents, you can checkout materials too. Drop by the library. The same checkout policies exist for you as for your students. Please Note, however, we limit the DVD checkouts, to 3 at a time for parents. Our DVD’s are teaching DVD’s and our teachers really expect them to be in the library– watch them then get them back in as soon as possible.
The Serials (magazines) issues have been updated. You can search the catalog for magazine issues by changing the “material type” to serial. Parents and students can check out magazines. Just make sure to return them on time.
Welcome Back to School for the 2013-14 School Year. The Secondary library has been hard at work over the last week preparing for teachers and students. The new books ( 2000+) are in. We have been checking out materials already. Drop by to check out the new materials and get that first look at the new arrivals.
New this year.
We have Merged the MS and HS Fiction sections into 1 large fiction collection. The HS books are still labeled HS but the 2 collections are now 1. See library staff if you need assistance
We have increased our FollettShelf collection. Information about how to access this will be develop shortly, but for now, you can access our FollettShelf Ebook collection by logging in to Destiny (use your SAS ID), changing the catalog search criteria to ebooks. Once you have found a book to your liking, you can select it and either read it online (all) or download it to your computer (some). You can also add FollettShelf to your iPad. For more information, drop by the library and we will help.
We have greatly increased our Kindle collection. Once all the kindles have been processed, we will start loading content. If you have a book that you need to read check with the library staff, we will see if we can load it on to a school kindle for you to check out. For more information see a librarian.
We have maintained the SAS Database collection. We saw increased use of JStor as well at the Literary Databases. If you have database needs please drop by the library to see a librarian. We are more than glad to help.
Finally, we had a banner year last year with our library use and circulation. We had over 110,000 entrances to the library with over 41,000 resource circulations. This was a big jump over previous years and due in great part to MS reading giants and the 9th and 10th grade independent reading programs. Keep up the great work.

Old News Posts June 8th, 2012

  • The SAS Pudong Librarians will be traveling to SAS Puxi on Tuesday afternoon for our memorial time in honor of Ellen Nugent.  Ellen suddenly and unexpected died this last Monday (May 28th).  We are still reeling from her loss.  Ellen was a 17 year veteran teacher at SAS.  She was someone that the librarians at SAS and in Shanghai depended on.  She was a master librarian and a great mentor.  She will be greatly missed.
  • It is June 3.  The SAS Pudong Libraries are expecting all books and library materials to be turned to their respective libraries by June 8th.  It is time to get your books in. Student and teacher signouts are beginning now.
  • May 23rd.  The library is nearing the end of the year.  We are rapidly completing inventories and final checkout times.  Please NOTE:— Final Checkout Date is May 25th.  All books and materials/equipment need to be in by June 8th.
  • The SAS Libraries are very close to opening FollettShelf.  Watch for more information

  • May 10th.  We are nearing many end-dates for the library.  We have already passed our last ILL (Inter-Library Loan) Date.  Our Seniors are now in their sign-out stage.  In order for seniors to receive a Library “sign-our” they will need to have all their materials returned.  This includes Elementary Books, equipment, etc…. The Last Check out day for all non-senior students, parents is May 25.  Students will only be allowed to checkout materials after this date if they have a specific teacher requirement to fulfill.  This will need to be evidenced by contact with the teacher.
  • All non-senior students, faculty, staff, parents must have their library materials turned in on or before June 8.  Turning in materials early will help the library as we are now in our year end inventory process.  The library would like to thank you for your support in this process.
  • The library this year will not be entertaining summer checkout of materials.  If you have questions about this, please come to the library and speak with Mr. Boyer
  • =========================================================
  • April 24th, Our Last ILL’s will be sent/received on April 27th.  After that day,  the SAS Libraries will not fill any ILLs to our sister libraries.
  • ============================================================
  • April 15th, The School year is nearing it’s end, only 8 weeks to go.  This is an important time for the library as our our yearly inventory approaches (May).  It is also a time when the library starts its end of school checkout dates.  For now, all resources for students (non-seniors), parents, and SAS staff need to be back into the library by June 8th.  Seniors, you will need to get you materials back in by May 23 for the signout to occur.  We will begin running reminders about this in May, but if you have books or materials that you have left sit around, it is time to find them and start the return process.

  • A lot of work has been done to identify as many of the EARCOS Schools that have “findable” public Library links and add them to this blog’s World Library Page.  This content addition is meant as a help for librarians in the region as we work to develop our sites to better serve our patrons.  We each have our talents and abilities and I hope each librarian/library listed is open to sharing.  If your library would like to be removed from the list, please contact Tim Boyer (SAS Pudong) at timothy.boyer@saschina.org .
