Welcome Back to School SAS

August 6th- Welcome back to School!.  Monday new and returning teachers will pour into to SAS Pudong Campus to get the school year started.  While new teachers and admin have been on campus for the last week, tomorrow everyone will be together for reunions and new beginnings as we get ready for students.  On Aug 10th, the Secondary Library will have a table out with the rest of the various organizations to help new students and parents connect into school.  Classes will begin on August 14th.  While it is hot an humid outside in Shanghai, the Secondary Library’s air con is working so come and cool off in the library, checkout all the new books that came over the summer and let the library staff help you start your year off right with that perfect end of summer-start of school read.

OverDrive Links Added

May 31st- A lot of work today in the SAS PD Sec Library.  Today was the first day of high school exams and we had lots of students in and out of the library.  A large part of the day besides working with retrieving resources and working to set the library up for summer break was the retooling of our SAS OverDrive Links (http://saschina.lib.overdrive.com/).  The Destiny Home page was edited to update the OverDrive Catalog, Online Help, and Quick Start-Up Links (http://destiny.saschina.org/common/servlet/presenthomeform.do?l2m=Home&tm=Home).  In that our school blogs are being discontinued, the Quick Start-Up Link Help were moved to this blog with cross links to Destiny.  Note: the image is from OverDrive Help Files

16-17 School Year Nearing End – Lots to Do

The 2016-17 school year is nearing its end. As we near the close of school this year there are “millions” of things to do in the Library. For the last month we have been shifting shelves and re-arranging book genres. New shelves have been added. Summer Reading Lists have been placed out for middle school students and we are closing out and transferring material from school blogs and wikis to other storage areas sites.

The next two weeks until school closes are full. This weekend is SAS Graduation. Next weekend is China National Robotics Tourney. Barbara and I are taking our SAS PD Middle School FLL team and I am supporting the SAS PD FTC Team on Jun 2-4 in Shanghai. I will upload pictures as they come available

The library is on full court press to get all the books and materials back in before closing day on June 9th. We will be turning on daily overdue notices beginning Monday through the end of school. We have removed all the old magazines from the displays and catalog. We are still working to weed the collection which is always a difficult task in preparation for getting new books in August.

In terms of news feeds from the SAS PD Secondary Library–I have moved more to using Twitter as a “Shout-Out” about what is happening in our library (SAS Pudong Secondary Library). You can follow the Library Twitter Feed @SASPDLib or you can follow my personal Twitter Feed @tsboyer. You can follow Barbara Boyer for Middle School Library News @barbaraboyersas. (tsb 5/27/17)

100+ Books for Middle Schoolers to Read

BBoyer- 100+ Books that all middle school students should have read before they get to high school…according to Mrs. Boyer and a few others.  These books are in no particular order at this time. (LINK)Love Books

I COULDN’T JUST STOP AT 100!

I have decided to put a genre tag to them as well, so that you have an idea of what the book is about. Also, all of these books can be found in the SAS libraries.

Welcome to BoyerBookends.  We are in the construction phase as we begin to transfer materials from Barbara and Tim’s Ed sites.  It is like Spring again….Come back often as watch us as we grow.

Library News Aug 20, 2016

Aug 20, 2016 – Welcome back to school.  We have one full week completed and the library is fully functional.  All the new books this year have been processed and ready for checkout.  The new fiction titles have been generized.  The library has already played host to many classes and meetings as we work to support the reading and information skills of our students at SAS.

The SAS Secondary Library has connected with:

  • 6th and 8th Grade classes to connect them to changes in the library, especially the Genreized Fiction Collection
  • MS Parents at the MS Parent Coffee to assist them connecting to OverDrive, our eBook platform
  • 9th and 10th Grade EAL classes to assist in NoodleTool Start-up
  • 9th and 11th Grade English classes to familiarize them with the Library collection and provide them book check-out time
  • AfterSchool supervised study/work time in the library.  As a note, the library has extended our hours from 7:30-5:20 M,T,W,F to support student and faculty/staff needs

As SAS makes it transition to Schoology as our LMS, the library will be evaluating how and what can be moved.  While the move to Schoology provides SAS great advantages, the library will need to look at how the move changes the way we can reach out and broadcast information about the library and its programs to the greater school community.  We in the library look forward to these challenges.

Finally, the Pudong Secondary Library looks to take fuller advantage of it LibGuide Platform with LibGuides, LibWizard, and LibAnswer/Chat this year.  Stay tuned for more information as we continue to roll out these library tools.

Welcome Back to School – 2016-17

Aug 2nd – Welcome back to school SAS.  The library is rapidly opening up and is ready for business.  Drop by for your reading and informational needs.  We can assist you with finding a book, checking our kindles, accessing your OverDrive and much, much more.

Best Wishes for a Great New School year from your Secondary Library Team — Tim, Barbara, Glenda, and LeahSAS Staff
