The New Kindles have Arrived
The Secondary Library received 20 new Kindle Fires in February. We have set them up and have begun loading books on them. We have loaded Kathryn Lasky’s “Last Girls of Pompeii” on 5 Kindles for students. The library is in the process of coding our Kindles. You can search for the Kindles using the title “PD SEC Kindle” in the Destiny Catalog. We are working to add the book titles to the various Kindle sets. The way we have approached this is that we have set up 2 HS, 2 MS and 1 Faculty accounts. Our 26 kindles are divided up across this accounts. We are working to add the individual book titles for each Kindle set in the Additional Notes section in the Destiny Records. This is an evolving process that we are experimenting with. For more information about this how we are working to further develop this resource, please feel free to contact the library staff. If you have specific titles of interest that you would like to see added to the kindles, feel free to drop by and discuss it with Mr. Boyer.
AR Reading HOT begins in the Library
The Secondary Library began last week (February 22) an after school AR/Reading HOT period. This is a time that students in the Middle School that need time to do that extra reading, finding a book, or taking an AR quiz can come to the library from 3-4:20 for a quiet time to catch-up or get ahead of their class reading assignments. Students wanting to attend the HOT session must come by the library before 1 pm on Thursday to sign up at the Circulation Desk for a HOT spot. Make sure to see Ms Glenda or Ms Lana to claim your spot.
The Secondary Library will continue holding these HOT sessions each Thursday afternoon as long as they prove useful for students. See you in the Stack!
Authors are Coming To SAS
First, sorry for such a long period without Posts. It has been a busy time in the library since January with the rapid push to complete the ordering process for books for next year. That is almost completed and I believe that we have a good set of books coming for the MS and HS Fiction Collection as well as our Non-Fiction and Reference Sections.
Library News. The library has a new librarian joining the Secondary Library next year. Barbara Boyer will be moving from the Elementary Library to the Secondary Library. Her experience and knowledge will be a big plus as the library works to remodel and redefine itself to better meet the needs of the students and staff of SAS. Kimbra Power will be moving in to the Elementary Library to replace Barbara. These changes mean the SAS Pudong Libraries will be back to full staffing. Thanks to all the SAS Admin that worked to make this happen. I am looking forward to working with the other SAS Pudong Librarians as well as Jan Stanton who is joining the Library in the Puxi Secondary Library.
The Big news, however is that our Spring Author Season is beginning. On March 6-16th, Kathryn Lasky and Christopher Knight will be with us on both SAS campuses. On March 21-28, James Gurney will be visiting our campuses working closely with our Art Classes. Other Authors on the SAS horizon include Kazu Kibuishi (April 20th, 23rd), Kevin Lewis and Phil Bildner (April 23rd-27th) who will be visiting and working in the Elementary Divisions on both the Pudong and Puxi campuses
For next year we have three authors in our sights. These authors include Anne Sibley O’Brien, Jeff Stone, and Pamela Dunkin Edwards. More on this later as dates and arrangements are firmed up.
Check out the Author tab for more information about these authors.
Best Wishes for the Winter Break
The library has been working to develop a Ipod and Kindle e-library. We are still in the starting mode in the process, but at the moment many ipods are out and nearly all Kindles are out for the Winter Break. In January we will continue to add to this collection. You can check the catalog and look up Ipod or Kindle and then do a Keyword search to see the titles that they hold.
Best Wishes for the Break and the New Year. See you in 2012
We have “Inheritance” by Paolini
Thanks to the Elementary Library we have one paper copy of Paolini’s Inheritance yesterday (Dec 1)and it is already checked out…… It has been downloaded it to our audio Ipods and have copies on our Kindles. The library will be getting more copies of the work this Winter Break, so if you can resist buying it yourself, check back often or make sure you come in right after break.
