  • The SAS Pudong Librarians will be traveling to SAS Puxi on Tuesday afternoon for our memorial time in honor of Ellen Nugent.  Ellen suddenly and unexpected died this last Monday (May 28th).  We are still reeling from her loss.  Ellen was a 17 year veteran teacher at SAS.  She was someone that the librarians at SAS and in Shanghai depended on.  She was a master librarian and a great mentor.  She will be greatly missed.
  • It is June 3.  The SAS Pudong Libraries are expecting all books and library materials to be turned to their respective libraries by June 8th.  It is time to get your books in. Student and teacher signouts are beginning now.
  • May 23rd.  The library is nearing the end of the year.  We are rapidly completing inventories and final checkout times.  Please NOTE:— Final Checkout Date is May 25th.  All books and materials/equipment need to be in by June 8th.

  • May 10th.  We are nearing many end-dates for the library.  We have already passed our last ILL (Inter-Library Loan) Date.  Our Seniors are now in their sign-out stage.  In order for seniors to receive a Library “sign-our” they will need to have all their materials returned.  This includes Elementary Books, equipment, etc…. The Last Check out day for all non-senior students, parents is May 25.  Students will only be allowed to checkout materials after this date if they have a specific teacher requirement to fulfill.  This will need to be evidenced by contact with the teacher.
  • All non-senior students, faculty, staff, parents must have their library materials turned in on or before June 8.  Turning in materials early will help the library as we are now in our year end inventory process.  The library would like to thank you for your support in this process.
  • The library this year will not be entertaining summer checkout of materials.  If you have questions about this, please come to the library and speak with Mr. Boyer

  • April 24th, Our Last ILL’s will be sent/received on April 27th.  After that day,  the SAS Libraries will not fill any ILLs to our sister libraries.

  • April 15th, The School year is nearing it’s end, only 8 weeks to go.  This is an important time for the library as our our yearly inventory approaches (May).  It is also a time when the library starts its end of school checkout dates.  For now, all resources for students (non-seniors), parents, and SAS staff need to be back into the library by June 8th.  Seniors, you will need to get you materials back in by May 23 for the signout to occur.  We will begin running reminders about this in May, but if you have books or materials that you have left sit around, it is time to find them and start the return process.

  • A lot of work has been done to identify as many of the EARCOS Schools that have “findable” public Library links and add them to this blog’s World Library Page.  This content addition is meant as a help for librarians in the region as we work to develop our sites to better serve our patrons.  We each have our talents and abilities and I hope each librarian/library listed is open to sharing.  If your library would like to be removed from the list, please contact Tim Boyer (SAS Pudong) at timothy.boyer@saschina.org .

  • March 23, 2012 – James Gurney and his wife Jeanette Gurney have just completed their visit to the SAS Pudong Campus.  The Gurneys visit began this past Wednesday, March 21.  James worked with two Art/Photography classes in the HS Division and presented a talk about his work as an Artist/Author of “Dinotopia”.  On Thursday James Gurney present to our entire Elementary Division, PreK to 5th grade in a series of 4 presentations which focused on his research and work to create images for “Dinotopia” as well as his scientific illustrations.  In each presentation he thrilled the audience by drawing and painting on the fly.  The art he created will be framed and posted for all to view in the Secondary Library. Today, Friday, the Gurneys presented to 6-8th Graders in a series of talks that discussed how he approaches artistic projects for both his scientific illustration work as well as his personal creative work.  A few very lucky students received unexpected “Happy Birthday” gifts from James as he demonstrated various 3-D lettering techniques.
