Blog Theme Issues

Well it has been a frustrating day working with Blog Themes.  The present theme I am using is not doing what I want it to and there are issues with it showing correctly.  The options that I have available just don’t feel right.  Blog Themes are very personal things.  I will have to go back to the drawing board this weekend to get a better feel.  The dilemma is the struggle between as Post based blog or a Static Informational type blog.  I need a hybrid and nothing is working right now.  So bear with me as I work to get the right “feel” that also does the job it needs to.

Destiny Ebook Links for the Getty Virtual Library

A great thanks to the Getty Publications Virtual Library (Art).  We have been copy cataloging and adding resource links with for as many books as possible that have existing Marc Records.  While we have not added the books directly on to our server, we have added the weblink to the book at the Virtual Library so that our students can in their catalog search also find the Getty Virtual Library books as well.  This is a huge thing that the Getty Publication Virtual Library has done because it had greatly increased the opportunity for our students to have access to these great resources.  We are populating a Public Resource list and when we are finished the project we will add a Copy Category as well.  A direct link to the Getty Publication Virtual Library is http://www.getty.edu/publications/virtuallibrary/index.html.

Playing with CSS and Curved Tables

Jan 16 — Tonight I have been playing with changing the old square type tables into curved shaped.  I found a Curved Table Generator and have been hard at work generating a “new” look for the Front Welcome Page.  The site I used to generate the curved CSS/HTML was http://cssround.com/#.  The production of the curved tables was not hard.  The hard part was trying to figure out how to place them on the page.  I finally moved to using transparent square tables where I placed the new round table cells inside.  After that, I cut and pasted the images of the authors and their names into the curved boxes.  The formatting of the material inside of the curved boxes was tricky and I have jury-rigged the process.  It will probably not work in the long-run, but for right now, it looks way better than it did before.

I took a screen shot of what the web-site looked like (see link above).
