In the library work has been going on in many fronts. We have begun our big “weed” of the non-fiction books. Already 2 carts out in 2 days. A lot more work to do, however… We have had a rush on our Kindles in that we were able to get “Blood of Olympus” for the library and the Kindles have been rushing out the door. We placed the new R. Riordan book has been eagerly awaited. On other fronts the library is gearing up for the new First Lego League season. It will begin at the end of October. More news coming about this.

Front Row Seat in the Library –Checkers

The SAS Pudong Secondary Library has been host this Fall to two Checker boards. They have been a hit during Middle School lunch. Both sets have crowds around every lunch. I have front row seating in that one board is in front of the Reference Desk. Just see below!

ECIS Librarians Conference – Waterloo, Belgium

ECIS Library Closing Keynote

Sep 27th – The ECIS Librarians Conference in Waterloo Belgium is nearly over.  Many great presentations with messages that work to push the boundaries of  librarianship.  It has been great to to have the opportunity to listen, gain information, be challenged, and make new contacts.  I will be bringing home to SAS a new vigor to further advance our library and better meet the needs of our students.  I have been a bit resistant about making radical changes in the library over the last few years but now is the time for change. The world of libraries is continuing to change and the challenge is to not follow the wave, but to ride the crest.  It is a bit of a wild ride then one makes the decision to make some bold moves but the time is now before it is too late. tsb 9/27/14

Students in the Library Sep 23

Sep 23-24th-  The library was a “full” place yesterday.  With the rain, students were “trapped” inside.  The library was a happening place.  In addition to reading and studying, students played “Happy Birthday” for Glenda on her birthday, played checkers, worked puzzles, and much more.  Some of the scenes from yesterday are below.  Hope you enjoy.

Library News – Sep 24th – JSTOR has introduced a Search Widget

Sep 24th – JSTOR has just sent out a “Search” widget that can be placed on a web page.  I grabbed it this morning and incorporated into our Destiny Home page and it works.  There is some modification that needs to happen if patrons access out of our school IP address range, but it looks like a very promising little addition.  Nice Job JSTOR!

FollettShelf has a New eReader for Computers and Personal Devices

Sep 12th.  Well FollettShelf has brought out its new eReader Platform for PC/Macs and Personal Devices.  It is called BryteWave K-12.  The App for personal devices (ipads, iphones, and androids) can be located on the App Store.  The App for PC/Macs can be located at the following address

https://reader.follettshelf.com/mobileReader/brytewavek12/apps.html

I have replaced the former apps on my computer(s) and idevices and have had no problems.  The download of the ebooks has gone smoothly even with the slow bandwidth we have been recently experiencing.  If this really works, it will open a new door to FollettShelf materials and may make them more viable at SAS.

The Teachers are Back and we are….

August 6th.  Today was the first day for returning teachers.  It was great to see everyone back.  The library is “ready”.  Our new books are in and ready for checkout.  We are neat and tidy,  well almost neat and tidy.  Even though we are dealing with some structural issues (leaky air con systems and a few windows that won’t close we are ready for business.  The image of the day, however is below.  There are still some nuts and bolt issues to take care so the following picture I felt summed it all up.  Hope you enjoy.  More fun pictures to come I am sure….. Best Wishes TSBoyer
