Neil Gaiman on Libraries Video

Dec 21st — After reading the “Before Google…Who Knew” article in NPR this morning I worked my way down the article’s comments.  The Video featuring Neil Gaiman was spot on.  Thanks Neil for affirming what librarians do.  The link to the video is (http://youtu.be/uH-sR1uCQ6g)

Before Google…. Who Knew – from NPR

Dec 21st — Interesting article just out from NPR, entitled “Before Google…Who Knew” (http://www.npr.org/blogs/theprotojournalist/2014/12/20/371851621/before-google-who-knew). I appreciate aim of the article, but must beg to differ.  I don’t know about your library, but the line “For the past couple of years, “librarian” has popped up on the Forbes list of Least Stressful Jobs”  does not just does not equate with my library.  School libraries, if they are what we want them to be, “one of the hubs of learning in the school” are not low stress jobs.  But thanks NPR for reminding the world that Librarians are indeed important and are key to helping students and others find that bit of information that they just can’t find by themselves… (tsb 12/21/14)

Neat Link – NPR Concierge 2014

NPR.org has for the last many years created a Book Concierge.  The 2014 edition link is http://apps.npr.org/best-books-2014/.  It is a lot of fun.  It was one of the sites that I checked last year with my library ordering and one I will check this year as well.

Norman Bridwell the Creator of Clifford the Big Red Dog Dies

From NPR News — Norman Bridwell, the creator of Clifford the Big Red Dog, died this last Friday.  Story Link in NPR News.  I spent many years reading and watching Clifford with my children.  We have a Clifford stuffed toy in our SAS library.  Thank you Norman, for the great stories and memories.  (tsb Dec 17th)

Dec 15th Library has become Science Central for 8th Grade

The SAS Sec Library has become Science Central for 8th Grade Classes. Biome Projects labeled with QR codes have been placed on many of our shelves. Students will bring the Library or personal iPads to read the QR codes and then investigate the projects. The students are still in the set up process right now, but come Thursday various classes of students will investigate the projects making the science come alive. Way to go 8th Grade. Thanks for connecting real life science with technology and the library.

Dec 16th– How Cool is This – A new Chess Piece to the Rescue

The library was missing a chess piece for one of the library’s sets and Simon Power came to the rescue. Pulling out new 3-D printer and within minutes, a new pawn. The chess set is “saved” and life in the library can return to its frantic normal. Thanks Simon!!!
