SAS Has OverDrive

SAS Has OverDrive.  For the last three months the SAS Librarians have been working behind the scenes to make sure everything is in place to release OverDrive.   The wait has been a long one, but beginning March 3, we will be gradually releasing Overdrive to our SAS Pudong and Puxi Middle School Students.  The plan is to fully test OverDrive for the rest of the Spring with our Middle School Students and work to open it up to all our library patrons in Fall of 2014.  At present our OverDrive Library is small having only 67 ebooks and audiobooks, but as we fine tune the process the SAS Librarians have plans to expand the offerings as quickly as possible.

The SAS PD Secondary Library has already added the OverDrive Link to its Destiny Home Page.  The marc records have been uploaded.  Middle School student information has been put in place and we are almost ready to go live!

OverDrive is an eBook/Audio Book platform that allows library patrons to check out library resources and read or listen to these books using a personal computer or portable device (phone, ipad, etc) anywhere in the world.  There are some software packages that students will have to load to their computing devices and information and pathfinders outlining this process will be coming soon.  Next Week (March 3-) information links in the SAS PD Secondary Destiny Home Page as well as the SAS PD Librarian Blogs will begin appearing.  This will extend to SAS Puxi Middle School students after they have completed their Poetry Week.

SOOOO… WATCH for It.  OverDrive is here!

Poetry Celebration Feb 28, 2014 at SAS Pudong

The Week of Feb 24-28 has flown by.  This Week at SAS Pudong, at all divisions, has been Poetry, Poetry, and More Poetry.  Anis Mojgani, Sara Holbrook, Michael Salinger, and Kenn Nesbitt have met with nearly all students on campus either in large assemblies or in small class settings.  Tomorrow is our last day with these 4 poets.  It will all end with a bang as they all gather in the Secondary Library and share with High School students and others one final look and listen.  Students will be presenting their work as well.  Pictures will follow, but for now, the time to the SAS Pudong Poetry Celebration is under 24 hours and counting.  Help us give our visitors a final cheer as they begin their transfer over to SAS Puxi.  The Poetry Celebration will run from 3 to 5 pm in the Secondary Library.  Snacks and Drinks provided by our HS Poetry and Literary Clubs.  See you there.

Note, 30 Hour Famine Students are more than welcome to come and share.

Poets at SAS Pudong – Wednesday Feb 26th

Wow, What a day.  Anis Mojgani, Sara Holbrook, Michael Salinger, and Kenn Nesbitt all had full days working with teachers and students at SAS Pudong.  The highlight of the day for many and especially the SAS – Pudong Librarians (Barbara, Kimbra, and Tim) was the Poet- Faculty get-together after school.  Anis, Sara, Michael, and Kenn came to the Secondary Library and gave an impromptu Poetry exhibition.  Each provided poems for the gathered teachers.  The poems were powerful reminders about about life, learning, love, parenthood, and being teachers.

Below are just of the few scenes from the Day

The Poets are here!

Feb 24th, 2014.  Anis Mojgani, Sara Holbrook, Michael Salinger, and Kenn Nesbitt have arrived at SAS Pudong.  Today each had full schedules of assemblies and class presentations.  On the HS side, Anis Mojgani wowed high school students with is rapid paced presentation.  Between powerful poems Anis provided tidbits of personal information that revealed his life and motivation.  Through out the rest of the day he worked with 9th and 10 grade English classes  leading them through the creation of personal poems developed by student generated sentences.  Thanks Anis.  What a way to start the week.

The rest of the week is filled with class contacts that range through the 9th and 10th grade english classes, various upper level writing classes, and two Theater classes.  On Wednesday Anis will participate in a “Meet and Greet” with our other visiting poets as they make themselves available to meet with faculty.  One the last day, Friday, our visiting Poets will close the week by participating in our Poetry Celebration.  HS students will be lead by our Poetry and Literary Clubs in a Time for Poems.  Watch for more information.

Blog Theme Issues

Well it has been a frustrating day working with Blog Themes.  The present theme I am using is not doing what I want it to and there are issues with it showing correctly.  The options that I have available just don’t feel right.  Blog Themes are very personal things.  I will have to go back to the drawing board this weekend to get a better feel.  The dilemma is the struggle between as Post based blog or a Static Informational type blog.  I need a hybrid and nothing is working right now.  So bear with me as I work to get the right “feel” that also does the job it needs to.

Library Book Displays

Feb 11th – The Library has active three book displays on the floor.  The first, as you enter, is our Poetry Display.  This displays many of our poetry books as well as Anis Mojgani’s Poetry Books in honor of the SAS Poetry Slam, Feb 24-28th.  The second display is our Romance Book Display in honor of Valentine’s Day this Friday.  The final is our Read-alikes “If you like Ann Patchett you like these” Display.  Drop by the library to grab that next great read.
