Last Day before Winter Break 2013

Well, we made it.  It has been a full Fall for the Secondary Library.  This Fall we started off adding nearly 3000 new titles/copies to the library.  This meant that a lot of books needed shifting. Over the space of 2 weeks the library shifted nearly 20,000 books The library completed its merging of the HS and MS school Fiction Titles.  We also reintegrated the Reference section back into the Non-Fiction Dewey Stacks.  These changes allowed the library to continue its move to rearrange seating and learning commons spaces.  We also added to our Kindles by both adding devices as well as adding Titles.  The semester ended with seeing the delivery of the first set of new iPad Minis.  This addition will allow the library to specialize the iPads in the collection to provide critical electronic magazine titles for the school.

Finally, we had a banner year last year with our library use and circulation. We had over 110,000 entrances to the library with over 41,000 resource circulations. This was a big jump over previous years and due in great part to MS reading giants and the 9th and 10th grade independent reading programs. Keep up the great work.

    Remembrance Day 2013

    Flanders Field Poem

  • Make sure to remember that November the 11th is Remembrance Day.  The Library Destiny Home Page has a copy of John McCrae’s battle field poem,  ”In Flanders Field”.  The library has pulled many of its books on and about war as part of this Remembrance, lest we forget.
  • In Flanders Field – Remembrance Day

  • In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
    In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

  • Composed at the battlefront on May 3, 1915 during the second battle of Ypres, Belgium by John McCrae
