Kindles and Ipods are up and Running
Beginning mid November, the SAS Pudong Secondary Library started checking out Kindles and Ipods with new book releases. We are in the beginning stage of this rollout but we are getting the handle on the process. Students and Staff can complete a “basic” search the Library Catalog using the the key term Kindle or Ipod and select “Title” Search or “Keyword” Search.
If you are searching for a Kindle you can select the Kindle in the search results by clicking either on the title of the Kindle (Kindle DX Wireless Reading Device) or by selecting the “Available” link. Once you select the Title of the Kindle you will see the “Title Details” for the Kindle. The titles available on the Kindles have been listed in the “Additional Info” Section of the window. If you select the “Available” link you will see the list of the Library Kindles and whether they are available. You can then select the “Title Details” tab to view the specific books that the Kindles hold.
Additionally, you can search for specific title on the Kindles by entering the title of a book and using the basic search screen. Instead of selecting “Title” search you should select “Keyword” search. When you do this to any titles or title parts a Kindle will be one of your search solutions.
The same process can be used to search for Ipod titles. The only difference is that the Library’s Ipod holdings have been broken down into 7 sets. Presently content has been loaded on the to Sets 1-6, with Sets 1-2 have HS Level titles, Sets 3-4 have MS Level Titles, Set 5 having ESOL support Titles, and Set 6 having Christopher Paolini’s book, Inheritance.
This is a evolving process as we work to find better ways to add titles and have them show up in our Destiny Catalog. Check back by and see how this process is proceeding. TSB
SAS Pudong Hosts Follett Destiny Library Workshop
The SAS Pudong Libraries are hosting the Follett Destiny Library Workshop on Nov 7th-8th in the Secondary Library. We are expecting nearly 40 librarians and library assistants to attend. More information and pictures will be added as the workshop unfolds.
Shanghai Librarians Network – Fall 2011
The Librarians of SAS Pudong would like to thank all the organizers of the Fall 2011 SLN Symposium for the great work they did to make this last weekend event memorable. The Western International School of Shanghai (WISS) (http://www.wiss.cn/) played host this year. The Symposium brought together nearly 65 Librarians and Librarian Assistants from Shanghai and the Asia region. The Symposium began Friday (Nov 5th) evening with a supper buffet and the Deli Darbar in Puxi and ended Sunday noon with a visit to the SAS Puxi Elementary and Secondary Libraries and the Rainbow Bridge International School Library (http://www.rbischina.org/). In between, on Saturday, WISS and the Symposium presenters provided a series of “takeaway” learning-sharing sessions. Saturday ended with a “no holds barred” game show contest that pitted library teams against each other as they worked to “locate that obscure bit of knowledge”. Representatives from Follett Publishing, Jennifer Neslon, LLC, and Childroad Inc were present as sponsors/venders. The presenters are working to upload their presentations to the SNL wiki (http://schoollibrarysymposium.wikispaces.com/) so if you are interested in the session topics be sure to check in.
Again a big thanks to the organizers and both old friends met and new friends made. TSB 11/6/11
